If you're looking for a no-hassle, no-smudge mascara that you can take throughout your day with no re-application, blinc mascara is your answer.Instead of painting your lashes like conventional mascaras, blinc mascara forms tiny no-smudge, water-resistant "tubes" around your lashes.Once applied, these mascara tubes bind to your lashes and cannot run, smudge, clump, or flake, even if you cry or rub your eyes.

Beauty Squared Round-Up for August 23, 2015

by noreply@blogger.com (beautysquared) @ beauty squared

Good morning! I hope it's a beautiful day wherever you are.

Here's the Beauty Squared Round-Up for this past week!

  • Combination skin - that's your skin type, right? Well, we all have combination skin, so really, that means there is no such thing and we're all being taken in by marketing. Read the argument here.
  • Do you wash your face in the morning and at night? Here's why you should maybe not wash your face when you wake up.
  • The external reveals what's internal, so drink these teas for better skin.

  • Three skin care tips you may not have heard before - exfoliating in the morning, skip moisturizer on your nose, and tint your windows.
  • Ways petroleum jelly (Vaseline) can help with your beauty and skincare routines.
  • 14 vegan beauty products, some of which you might already be using/aware of.
  • Retinol is a form of vitamin A and a powerful antioxidant that can help prevent fine lines and wrinkles, reduce discolouration and help manage eczema and acne. It can be expensive, but there are drugstore versions of retinol that aren't - some of the best.
  •  Did you know your makeup primer can be used on your lips, in your hair and as a makeup corrector?
  • Want to see what makeup colours will be in style next spring and summer? The British Beauty Blogger has photos and swatches of MAC's Trend Forecast Palettes for Spring/Summer 2016.
  • MUA Andrew Sotomeyer shows how to use eyeliner to enhance a variety of different eye shapes - hooded, almond, round, downturned and monolid.
  • Seemingly inspired by the OCC Lip Tars and the Too Faced Melted lip colours, MAC has its Vamplify collection coming out this week. The British Beauty Blogger has some swatches here, and Temptalia has the preview photos here.
  • In defense of "tacky" makeup: glitter, bright colours, temporary tattoos.
  • Transforming the makeup looks you wore when you were younger so that you can wear them now (and not look like you're trying to be a teenager).
  • Does your skin have yellow undertones? That means you've got cool-toned skin. Here are some makeup colours/products that will suit you.
  • Permanent makeup: would you ever? Here's what you should know before considering it.
  • Are you afraid of wearing lip gloss? (I am).
  • Hangnails: what are they, how do you get them and how do you get rid of them?
  • Deep side-parts, and I mean DEEP side-parts. They're not for the faint of heart.
  • And finally, this great article in the NY Times Magazine looks at Kevyn Aucoin's second book, Making Faces, that was, for many (including me) a revelatory inspiration and continues to be to this day.

Beauty Squared Round-Up for September 6, 2015

by noreply@blogger.com (beautysquared) @ beauty squared

Hello, and a happy Saturday to you!

  • It's a trend that's been around for awhile, but it's taken off again recently. Eyebrow slits.
  • There are some beauty rituals you should skip in the days just before your wedding (or any major event when you want to look your best).
  • We're in that transitional period where summer fades into autumn. What nail colour do you wear that's not completely un-summery but not entirely autumn either? Here are five ideas for you.
  • Fake eyelashes can be hella intimidating, but here are some tips if you're keen to wear them!
  • Some great makeup tricks that can make you look younger.
  • Kohl eyeliner, or kajal as it is known in different parts of the world, has been around for centuries. XOVain takes a look at some of the best kajal products.
  • Here's part one of Mascara Wars' Makeup Artist's Guide to Deep Black Skintones. Even if you're not a makeup artist, it's worth a read, especially if you've got dark skin.
  • Do you sleep in your makeup? Even just sometimes? Well, you should read this.
  • And on the flip side of that, here are ten beauty things you can be doing to your skin while you sleep.
  • Did you know that common anti-aging ingredients such as retinol lose their efficacy when they're exposed to air and light? That means that anti-aging moisturizers packaged in jars, requiring you to dip your fingers into them aren't as effective as those that come in tubes or bottles.
  • The 10 (Unbreakable) Laws of Always Looking Polished.

Haley's Hints & Hits

by noreply@blogger.com (Haley Shumway) @ All Things Haley

I was recently asked to teach a three 45-minute makeup classes to girls ages 12-17. It caused me to reflect on the basics, something I think I overlook a lot. I hope the information I gave the young women, as well as you, will help prevent mistakes that I made for years from being made.

Haley's Handout

"Make-up, if applied tastefully and in moderation, can enhance appearance. But no amount of eye shadow, lipstick, or mascara could possibly compete with the natural attractiveness of a genuine smile. It brightens the room. It cheers others. It communicates friendship, love, and optimism so much more than any cosmetic ever could. It puts people at ease and is welcoming. Truly in the world of glamour, there is no close second to a genuine smile.”
~Elder Lynn G. Robbins

Haley’s Hints:
-Don’t sleep in your makeup! Your eyelashes and skin will do so much better if you allow them time to breathe. Hygiene and skin care are so important! No amount of makeup can compensate for unclean or unhealthy skin. I highly recommend eye makeup remover to ensure all the eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara are off without excessive rubbing or scrubbing. Allow the moistened cotton pad to sit on your eye for a few seconds and then gently wipe off your lids. In the same way you applied your mascara, gently use the pad to get the mascara off of your lashes. You don’t want to cause premature wrinkles in the eye area from poor makeup removing techniques. Your makeup will apply easier if you’re working with a clean slate, so wash and hydrate your skin and then you won’t need as much makeup and it won’t take as long! Depending on your skin type, once or a couple times a week, use a face mask or cleansing brush to deep clean your pores so they don’t get clogged and cause breakouts that could have been prevented. Avoid scrubs, as they will cause mini tears in your skin which will only make things worse. Be sure to have the water just barely warm because if it’s too hot it will burst capillaries, which will cause redness and an older appearance.
-Hydrate and protect your skin—always! If you notice you are breaking out, don’t skip your moisturizer! Your skin may even be breaking out because it’s over-compensating from the lack of moisture and nourishment that can be found in face creams. Face creams and sunscreen will help keep you looking young! DNA is of course a huge factor, but control what you can and it will prolong the aging process! The sun provides us with Vitamin D, which is vital, but excessive exposure will cause your skin to become leathery and will wrinkle much sooner than it would have otherwise. It can also cause skin cancer, so be diligent in protecting your skin! If you do get too much sun, apply aloe vera without lidocaine (it’s alcohol based and will dry your skin out) to get your skin healing fast! You also need to hydrate yourself from the inside out, so drink lots of water and avoid greasy foods to help keep your skin clear and luminous. It will pay off in the long run, I promise!

~Makeup Application:
·Face
-Primers for eyeshadow and face may seem like a gimmick, but they truly help to create a smooth canvas for flawless application. Eyeshadow primers help the shadows appear in their truest shade, stay put, and keep them from creasing. Face primers make foundation application easier, allow you to use less, and will help with staying power.
-Mineral foundation/loose or pressed powders are great for everyday use because they’re light, easy to apply, and yet still provide coverage. They’re also great to use for setting foundation when it is worn for special occasions. If you do start using foundation for school dances or family pictures, make sure you have the right shade! Either mix two shades of foundation together or mix a foundation that is slightly too dark with a moisturizer to tone it down for your perfect shade. It’s very important to get as close to skin color as possible. Of course we always want to look tan or we feel like we have to cover up our flaws and blemishes so we want to go darker, but it's important not to go too dark. Always blend a little foundation down your neck and below your ear so there aren't any harsh lines. I like to use a foundation brush or beauty blender to make sure it’s even so it doesn’t look patchy or caked on.
-Cream blush can have better staying power and can be applied with a small stipple brush or your fingers. It’s best to apply blush slightly below or on your cheekbone, depending on your face shape, and from the colored part of your eye (iris) out because any closer can accentuate redness around your nose.

·Eyeshadow

-Blending is key! I like to use a shadow that is a shade or two darker than my skin tone (usually kind of a blush color) for blending on my brow bone so my highlight shade and my darker crease color transition more smoothly. There really aren’t any rules to how you apply shadows, but my go-to is using a medium shade on my eyelids, a darker shade in the outer one-third of my eye and crease, and a light color for a highlight below my eyebrows and in the inner corner of my eye. The darker the color, the smaller the brush.

·Mascaras

-I have yet to find the perfect mascara, but there are tons of great ones at the drugstore. You don’t want it to flake off on your face or make your eyelashes look like spider legs. A mascara that lengthens, thickens, separates, or keeps your eyelashes curled can be a fun way to switch up your look.

Hits with Haley:
-e.l.f brushes, primers, blush, eyelash curler, lip exfoliator, zit eraser, etc.
-Up & Up or Equate Eye Makeup Remover & Facial Cleanser (no different than Neutrogena)
-Ulta (drugstore & high-end products with a rewards program)
-Search YouTube for dupes of high-end products, reviews, and tutorials for palettes or products before buying

Remember, you’re already beautiful! Makeup should accentuate your natural beauty, not cover it up. :)

Beauty Squared Round-Up for August 9, 2015

by noreply@blogger.com (beautysquared) @ beauty squared

Happy Sunday lovelies!

Let's jump right in, shall we?

  • An excellent article on contouring, written by a makeup artist who breaks down what contouring is, how to do it, and why it's used (and not used).
  • Nude lipstick is the opposite of red lipstick but it's no easier to track down your perfect nude lipstick than it is the perfect red. Here's how to do it.
  • Everyone loves a hack (apart from maybe someone who breaks into computers or a certain type of painful cough or someone who ). Ahem, anyway, how about some lipstick hacks?
  • More beauty hacks!
  • Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics has (finally) come out with new packaging for their popular Lip Tars.
  • Would you wear pink on your lips, eyes and cheeks? Here's how one woman translated the Spring 2015 runway trend on her own face - pretty!
  • Beauty products for swimmers.
  • Tweezerman has come out with an eyelash curler specifically made for deepset and almond-shaped eyes.
  • Did you know that you can use undereye liner to alter the shape of your eyes? Here's how to make your eyes look rounder, elongated or more sultry.
  • How can you tell if your natural beauty products are actually natural?
  • An eyebrow-thickening serum that you can make at home.
  • A Korean sticker that can shrink zits overnight.
  • A round-up of next generation lip balms.
  • Do you wear mineral sunscreen? You should read this.
  • An argument for not washing your face in the morning.
  • Drinking water doesn't just keep your body hydrated, and well, alive. It can improve the condition of your skin, teeth and hair. Here are some tips for drinking water.
  • Dry skin brushing can increase circulation, exfoliate the skin, and improve skin texture. Here's how to do it and why you should.
  • Hair treatments for dry hair you can do at home, with stuff from your kitchen!
  • Ah, humidity. Evil, evil humidity making your hair all frizzy. Here's how to fight it.
  • Does rinsing your hair with cold water actually make it shinier?
  • Getting a drastic haircut holds the promise of a positive life change. Following a breakup or another big life change, new hair promises to give you a fresh outlook, to change your personality. But does it always give us what is promised? One woman reflects back on how a drastic haircut changed her life.
  • Photographer Adama Jalloh celebrates black British girlhood through her photos of black girls having their hair done.
  • Women who wear makeup earn more and are treated better than women who don't, but what toll is this makeup tax having on us?
  • Model Elizaveta Bulokhova has posed for her first photos since losing her jaw to oral cancer. Beautiful.

I would love to share with you what I’m loving & what’s working for me. I hope you’ll do the same!

NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment Review- American Woman, Save the Queen, Walk This Way

by justina @ Justina's Gems

I love a good matte lipstick, and I’ve been really into NARS recently (did you read my review on their gorgeous new highlighting/bronzing palette?) When I was poking around in Sephora the other day, I stumbled upon a new launch from Nars, their Powermatte Lip Pigments. This is one of those launches where you go and […] Read more...

Blinc Mascara and Eyeline Review - ohboyohboyohboy

ohboyohboyohboy

I find it ironic that I somehow ended up to be the ‘girly girl’ in my group of friends.  Having not mastered the air of ’round brushing’ until my mid thirties and still trying to figure out how to polish the nails on my right hand, I’m not exactly a beauty or style guru.  I …

Review: blinc mascara AMPLIFIED

Review: blinc mascara AMPLIFIED

by Stephanie Drenka @ Stephanie DrenkaReview: blinc mascara AMPLIFIED – Stephanie Drenka

I was wandering through the mall today shopping for dresses to wear in my engagement photos and decided to stop in Sephora to see what was new. Their mascara display caught my eye, because I’ve been unimpressed with my current L’Oreal Telescopic mascara. Was so excited to see that blinc had come out with a new version of their notorious waterproof mascara, blinc mascara AMPLIFIED. I quickly snatched up a tube along with a Shiseido eyelash curler (my favorite– works the best with my Asian eye shape). My eyelashes are basically non-existent. It’s pretty tough for any mascara to make […]

L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara Review

by Audrey @ Cremes Come True

Loreal’s Voluminous Lash Paradise has been compared to the cult favorite, Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara.  I’ve tried them both, and I have to say, L’Oreal hit the mark.  I am not a drugstore mascara person, I like a select few of them.  This one is officially added to my short list. Is Lash Paradise better than […]

Review: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder

by Vibhu Gairola @ BeautyDesk

Makeup is what you make of it — this adage, oft-repeated by beauty gurus and professional makeup artists alike, means that you’re encouraged to use products as they best suit you, not necessarily as they’re advertised. Blush as eyeshadow, eyeshadow as highlighter, lip colour as liner: usually, anything goes, but now and then you come... / READ MORE /

Bikini Sugar Waxing

by HaleyandJordan @ HALEY & JORDAN

What is sugaring?  You might be asking yourself, what the hell is sugar waxing?! We asked ourselves the same thing when we first heard about it and we’re scared as hell to give it a try. Basically, its like waxing, only less painful and it’s using only sugar, lemon, and water. No toxic heavy waxes or those crazy strips. Sugaring is actually a much safer process than typically waxing and the results are so much better! You can sugar any part of your body really, but we’re here to talk to you about bikini/Brazilian sugar waxing. We first tried sugaring at Bronzed Bunny and haven’t gone a month without stopping in since! First of all, Bronzed Bunny is the best place we’ve ever been, like ever, so we’d highly recommend going there. But if there doesn’t happen to be one around you, we suggest doing your research and reading some reviews before picking a place. We’ll give you all the details, from the process, to the pain, to the upkeep! The process Okay, so for our first time, we had no idea what to really expect. It was our first time ever being waxed anywhere beside our eyebrows, and we […]

Product Review – Egyptian Magic

by Peppers Johnson @ Peppers Johnson

On my happiness scale of 1 to 10, I would rate finding a great skin cream at 50.
